The project is Inspired from the concept of donating a lock of your hair to the Lord Tirupati; though the concept the studio created a narrative and hair God Anāan, in the form of Ardhnareshwar (half man & half woman), to champion the cause of equality against the backdrop of the gender war that society is facing today. Mad O Wot Hair Temple is all about letting go of your past and moving forward towards new beginnings by offering a cut lock of hair to Anāan and making a wish for all good things in the future.

The space was designed as an old run down temple that blends in with the Pali Hill precinct of Bandra. The concept of the Hair God was generated through a poem called “Anāan’s Ode” as given below:
From where the lands stay unconquered, From where the seas mercilessly swallow secrets,
From where the wind ruthlessly wipes off histories, From where nothing is to be drowned,
Nothing is to be burnt, nothing is to be healed, nothing is to be shunned, Of all the places,
Nothing rusts but the time, Two sides make a third and circle goes in rhyme,
I am not a woman to be gawked at, not a man to ponder,
Not some skin to cheer for, Not a cold cadaver.
I am a part of no-one, yet I am alive for the truth that we share,
Truth that is revealed beyond the decay of flesh,
Truth that makes me one, NOT with the claimed genders,
But with the soil that bore us, soil where we shall lay,
Soil that of an unconquered land, soil that breathes beneath the secrets, soil that perhaps makes new histories!
The space was inaugurated by the Indian cricket captain Mahindra Singh Dhoni on 11th January, 2014 on the eve of the Indian team’s tour to New Zealand.
