Kankotri Writing Ceremony, Mumbai

The Kankotri writing ceremony is a ritual amongst the Gujarati community of India, where the first family wedding invitations are offered to god and then shared with a close family and friends. The brief required to create temporary installations for the living room of the client for the purpose of the ceremony.

The ritual was hosted at the bridegroom’s residence, who is an avid reader and book lover. The design was built around that concept and recycled books, novels and paper were folded to create forms for the installation.

A free standing structure was created to support a combination of folded books and origami tessellations.

Few books were cut into shapes and folded to create vases, postcard and stationary holders.
