The project began with an intensive urban study of the Vasai-Virar region of Greater Mumbai. We zoomed into two villages in the region Arnala and Nirmal which were historically known for their agricultural and fishing communities. Urban encroachment was threatening these agrarian communities as prime agricultural land was being used lost to modern construction. One of the observations was an emerging food crisis in the region.
The proposal involved developing Modular Hydroponic Vertical Farms for the region, to help curb the loss of the agricultural output. The project would help the local economy by creating a new typology of “Fresh produce farm – supermarkets” and “Green Sustainable” cafes,
The project is located on edge of the of the Arnala village. The site was an existing defunct poultry farm.
