Adarsh Nagar is an exisinng Middle Income Group housing complex existing in Worli, Mumbai. The residents were considering redeveloping the society as the FSI in the region was increased over the years.
I proposed the Self Redevelopment Model where the sale of additional housing and commercial space created by the redevlopment would fund the entire project.
The initial study consisted of defining the user groups for the project. It was a mix of toddlers to senior citizens, all having different needs as they grow up and live. Hence the program for the project evolved from various age groups of people using the project.
This gave rise to community spaces like a Day Care Centre, Television rooms, Library, Laundry Rooms, Gym and Health clubs, and Parks within the building. The floor layout was based on the ‘Traditional Indian Verandah’, where common courtyards are shared between families.
The Idea was to incrase social interaction thorugh a heirachy of shared spaces.
There were 7 different types of housing units and multiple options for the bunglows
